Possibly Pinteresting Wednesdays: Con-graduation Lauren! Invitations

We've all seen the awesome wedding invitations with the modern typography and bright colors. Most of us don't get the opportunity to designs wedding invitations everyday, and when we do, we have to pick just one style. And with all the amazing designs available today plus the constant new ideas popping up all over Pinterest and the web, its hard to pick just one.  However with my sister's graduation coming up, I realized this style could be applied to anything.

It was a bit of a challenge to design this invitation with limited time.  So we decided that the invitation would also be the envelope.  Less paper, less time, more awesomeness!

Here are a just a few great pins that I drew inspiration on for this project.  Enjoy!

Owl'll Bet You've Never Seen This Before

This is another one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" moments.  I love decorating for Halloween but I know that Halloween isn't everyone's 'thing.'  On the other hand, this cute owl is a perfect way to decorate for Halloween without' decorating'!  Owls are so popular right now, plus its environmentally friendly, and would look great with any decor I think.  I find that the problem with a lot of trash to craft projects is that they turn out cheesy or even....tacky (the dreaded T word).  But I simply love this idea!  Its actually really creative...did I mention that I'm kicking myself for not thinking of this first?!

How To: Make your own Vintage Spools and Thread Labels

If you are a serious crafter like me, you probably have tons of ribbon and thread laying around.  The worst part is they come on those ugly paper spools that take up so much room.  Its hard to find a place to not only store them but also access them quickly.  And...what if you loved all this beautiful ribbon so much that you wanted to be able to display it in a tasteful way?

I recently got so fed up that I wrapped mine all around small rectangles of card board.  I wanted to use those beautiful vintage spools you see in second hand stores.  But if you are anything like me, you probably wonder how something so small can cost so much!  If I need 30 spools and they cost from $4-$6 dollars a piece....just wow!

So I was thrilled when I came across these two posts while stumbling the other day.   Beth @ Home Stories A2Z teaches you how to make the authentic looking vintage spools that you see above.  And Cathe @ Just Something I Made helps you top them off with some amazing labels (see photo below).  With these two DIY yourself projects, you'll have beautiful vintage spools that you can use to show off all that ribbon that has been hiding in your craft closet!

Vintage Modern: Wines Crates

I recently moved and the best way to describe our storage situation is:  strange.  We have an over abundance in the bathroom and not enough in the kitchen, with a strange cabinet on the other side of the bar where we store our pots and pans.  In the process of moving, I forgot to remove my shelves from the old apartment.  It was a sad sad day when I realized that I had no place to put all my do-dad's and foo-fa's.

So imagine my excitement when I found three wooden crates at an estate sale.  I had seen pictures of this while stumbling online and thought, "Hey what an great idea....I can do that!"  So I did....

I've also fell in love with peacock blue and basically covered everything that would stand still in the color.  I tried to paint Yoda but he was having none of it!  I slapped paint all over the crates like a 3 year old and the result was nothing short of imperfect....or perfectly rustic as some would say.

Here are some other great wine crate storage ideas!
